Crangi carries the finest antique books and in house designed jewelry and the best part – it is a family business (my favorite!). The brother and sister duo have created beautiful well crafted jewelry line for women and men. if you haven’t been yet, I urge you to make it a stop on your your next NY trip or pop over to their online store.

Top Pick: Rail Road Spike Cuff in brass ($88) and personalize it with a free engraving.

This is my first Designer Spotlight and I am beyond excited to introduce you all to one of my favorite jewelry designer duos – Melange Couture! This unique line was started by twins Nadia and Saadia out of NYC who drew inspiration from their childhood and background. The two have created extremely unusual and beautiful pieces that will definitely enhance any outfit.

How/Why did you start designing jewelry? Is this something you have always wanted to do?

My twin Nadia grew up in pakistan, where beading embroidery and jewelry is a big part of every day. Recently we started a company that sources beading and embroidery work from India for designers in the U.S. We were inspired by the skill level of the artisans. Using their skill set we were able to create a jewelry line which is almost like transferable beading. You can take it from one outfit to another.

I love that all the jewelry is handmade in India. What is it made from?

Its made exactly how you would bead a fabric. In this case fabric is cut out hence creating a very drappy effect.

Where do you get your inspiration?

People in NYC. The city is full of people from all over the world. Everyone brings something different!

What is your favorite piece in the right now?

The girl’s from Litter have a unique and amazing twist on jewelry. They create jewelry for everyone and everywhere – you can get it for your head, body, shoes, and ears of course. My favorite is the shoe jewelry!

I think it is the perfect accessory for most any outfit.

Yesterday I went to the Cartier and America exhibit at the Legion Of  Honor and it showed me that diamonds truly are a girl’s best friend.  The exhibit covers the 100 years of Cartier in the US and features over 200 of Cartier’s most spectacular pieces.  Best part, the jewelry was previously owned by America’s royalty such Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Grace Kelly, The Duchess of Windsor, Marjorie Post, Gloria Swanson and many more. The exhibit was not only beautiful but was a short history of style, Cartier and the elite of the US throughout the last 100 years, needless to say it was an eye-opening experience.

The Cartier Bib necklace was created in 1947 for the Duchess of Windsor. This was one of the most beautiful necklaces at the exhibit made up of 18-carat and 20-carat gold, a heart-shaped faceted amethyst, twenty-seven emerald-cut amethysts, an oval faceted amethyst, turquoise cabochons and baguette-cut diamonds (all stones were supplied the duke and duchess themselves). The above picture does not do this necklace justice. It is STUNNING!

I love Duchess of Windsor’s style! She also owned the above  Panther Clip Brooch. This is one of the first three-dimensional panthers conceived by designer Jeanne Toussaint of Cartier. The panther is pave-set with diamonds and tiny sapphire cabochons and one 152.35-carat Kashmir sapphire cabochon!! Wowzers. This brooch is a jaw dropper. It is an extremely intricate brooch, the eyes two pear-shaped yellow diamonds.

Elizabeth Taylor was given the above necklace by her husband, Mike Todd, while vacation in Southern France. Not to worry, this necklace has a matching earring and bracelet (featured below). While at the exhibit you can see the home video of Mike Todd giving Elizabeth Taylor the necklace..it is unbelievable how amazing the set looks on the her while she is wearing no make up and wearing a swim suit.

Mexican actress, Maria Felix, had an extensive collection of jewelry from Cartier, most of which she had commissioned. The Crocodile necklace featured above was commissioned in 1975 and is set with 1,023 yellow diamonds and has emeralds for the eyes and the other has 1,060 emeralds and ruby eyes. That is incredible.

It is said that Felix went to Cartier’s rue de la Paix store with a baby crocodile as a model for the necklace.

Another special order for Felix is the snake necklace with 2,472 diamonds. The inside segments of the necklace are enameled to give the illusion of snake skin. It is also made up of individual sections that are hinged internally so it will slither like a snake.

This is the official portrait of Princess Grace of Monaco wearing her 12 carat engagement ring as well as a matching necklace, clip and Tiara all created for her by Cartier. You can see her engagement ring at the exhibit.

This necklace was created on special order for Daisy Fellowes (daughter of Duc Decazes and Isabelle Singer). This is one of the most famous Tutti Frutti pieces made by Cartier.

The exhibit has extended its stay at SF’s Legion of Honor through May. The museum is open 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays.

I bookmarked Tom Binns page so long ago I can’t remember where it came from. But the jewelry that he creates is quite amazing.  I love the oversized modern style with vintage undertones. These are definitely statement pieces.

This necklace is my favorite! The colors are beautiful and versatile. I wish I had this at my sister’s wedding – it would have complicate my gown perfectly.

My only wish- they were in my price range.

I was shopping around yesterday for some new make up and found that Tarina Tarantino’s make up line launched last week at Sephora!

Tarantino – “as the accessory designer who makes everything she touches sparkle. This fuchsia-tressed former makeup artist now shares her passion for self-expression and playfulness with a complete cosmetics collection, available only at Sephora. Inspired by her nostalgic-yet-modern jewelry line, Tarina developed innovative products with high-quality, color-rich formulas and luxurious packaging. TARINA TARANTINO will take girls of all ages on a fantastical journey, where they can express their own personal style and reveal their inner sparkle.”

As far as I can tell, the make up is a hit. I had a chance to try the eye shadows and the lip stick last night and they are fabulous! Not only is the product exceptional but so is the creative packaging. I do think that Tarantino achieved what she intended – to make everything sparkle!!!
